HerPath Learning Session: Navigating the Opportunities, Challenges and Emotions of Living with Wealth
Potomac, MD
Living with wealth often creates unique opportunities. But these opportunities can also present challenges — challenges that are often due to differing perspectives family members, friends and society have around wealth. In our society money is often deemed a “taboo” subject making it difficult to openly discuss the emotions and challenges involved.
In this session we will explore varying perspectives around wealth, how your experiences have shaped your views, and how those views and experiences guide your decisions today. The program is intended to help you devise a practical approach to navigating the opportunities and challenges of living with wealth.
Please note this event is intended for Pathstone’s female clients, as well as other women among their friends, family, and network. Please feel free to invite those who may be interested.

2nd Annual RIA Mountain States Investment Forum
Denver, CO
Craig Metrick to be a panelist on “The ESG Conundrum”.
Investing in environmental, social and governance goals are quickly gaining traction in private markets. As per a report published by Preqin in October 2021, asset managers committed to ESG investing now oversee an aggregate of $3.1 trillion or 36% of the value of total global private market assets*.
However, the research firm also, noted that managers and asset owners are struggling to integrate ESG metrics and goals into their investments because of greenwashing. As per industry experts, in order for private capital to succeed in this space, this issue must be addressed. The lack of standardization makes it increasingly difficult for investors across the spectrum to fact check the claims of private capital firms.
Given the outlined shortcomings, are the opportunities presented by the public markets a safer and promising avenue for ESG investments? Or is private capital the future of ESG?

Private Family Trust Companies: What? Why? How? Webcast Replay
Webcast
Private family trust companies (PTCs) are business entities established by families to serve as the trustee for their trusts in furtherance of family, financial, and planning goals. They can be an efficient and effective way to integrate a family enterprise and optimize governance, involving family members and their trusted advisors. PTCs allow families to:
- Manage complex assets, such as operating businesses and real property,
- Maintain control over the management and administration of their assets,
- Engage rising generations through the governance structure,
- Streamline succession planning, as the PTC enjoys a perpetual lifespan,
- Improve communications and family dynamics
In this webcast, Scott Weaver and Kea Molnar from Jackson, Wyoming-based Willow Street, which specializes in advisory, governance, and operations for Wyoming PTCs, shared an introduction to PTCs, common PTC structures, and case study examples of how family enterprise families have benefitted from establishing PTCs. Willow Street is a sister company to Pathstone, an independent wealth management firm serving multigenerational families with complex needs.

Estate Planning Essentials: Integrating the Technical and the Human
Webcast
Estate planning is a conscious set of choices with multigenerational implications beyond the purely financial. We believe planning should be approached thoughtfully and intentionally as a tool to move towards an individual’s or family’s vision of success. While the scheduled sunset of federal estate tax exemptions at the end of 2025 is spurring interest in the subject, rushed planning is often bad planning and taxes shouldn’t be the only catalyst for action.
In this webinar series Pathstone Managing Director Jim Coutré and Chief Fiduciary Officer Scott Weaver, share their experiences over the years working with clients from the family dynamics and fiduciary perspectives, respectively. Jim and Scott explore common obstacles to thoughtful estate and wealth transfer planning and how to address them while considering family values and purpose, planning strategies, and tactics and implementation.
