Paul is a Managing Director, leading the emerging San Diego practice for Pathstone, working with affluent families and individuals on investment management, legacy planning, philanthropy, and a myriad of complementary services. With a focus on working with middle-market business owners and divorcing individuals, Paul is known for his perspective and vast network of professional partners.

Paul serves on the board of the San Diego Humane Society and the La Jolla Institute for Immunology, where he is chair of the finance committee. He is also a member of NuFund, San Diego’s angel investor cooperative.

Paul joined Pathstone in 2024 after spending the previous decade as president of Northern Trust San Diego and of BNY Mellon Wealth Management’s local practice. Earlier in his career, Paul was a business owner and Fortune 500 executive in the media industry, where he led teams of more than 1,200 people and was responsible for more than $175 million in annual revenue. Paul started his career as a financial journalist, writing for publications such as BusinessWeek, The Washington Post, and the New York Times.

Paul earned his MBA from the University of Virginia/Darden and BA from the University of Connecticut. He completed the Executive Program in Change Management & Leadership at Stanford University and the Executive Program in Marketing Communications from Northwestern University. Paul also holds certificates in Data Science from the University of California Berkeley/Haas and AI in Marketing from the University of Virginia/Darden.

Paul is a 7-time national champion in racquetball and paddleball and has recently started playing competitive padel. He lives with his wife, Lori, and their dog of random ancestry, Calliope. Paul and Lori have two grown children McClain and Madeline.
