John Buoymaster serves as Managing Director and shareholder at Pathstone. He is also Chair of the Board of Directors of Laurel Trust Company of Nevada, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pathstone.

Prior to joining Pathstone, John served as Managing Director & Co-Chair at Hall Capital Partners LLC, an Outsourced Chief Investment Office (OCIO) which advised on $45 billion of client assets. He also served on the firm’s Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Investment Review Committee, and Audit Committee. Before joining Hall Capital Partners in 1998, John was a Vice President in the San Francisco office of J.P. Morgan & Co. At J.P. Morgan. At J.P. Morgan, John advised individuals and families on investment strategy, portfolio structuring, and generational planning. From 1977 through 1991, John was associated with the San Francisco and Palo Alto law firm of Cooley Godward Castro Huddleson & Tatum and was a partner in that firm from 1984 through 1991. His practice concentrated on estate and tax planning and estate and trust administration, primarily for venture capitalists and founders of emerging companies. He also represented non-profit organizations, including family foundations and non-profit research organizations.

John graduated magna cum laude from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He also obtained a JD from Stanford Law School. John is on the Board of Trustees and serves as Chair of the Investment Committee for the NPR Foundation. He is on the Board of Trustees and Investment Committee for the Stuart Foundation and the Advisory Council of the Columbia Center for Public Research & Leadership.

John lives in San Francisco and has two adult children.
