John is an Executive Managing Director and tenured professional in the multi-family office industry. His focus continues to be serving complex families. He has been fortunate to partner with others in the space over his 25 years building advisory businesses and managing talent.
Prior to Pathstone, John served as President of Convergent Wealth Advisors, where he managed the firm through multiple strategic challenges including successfully designing and methodically orchestrating a combination with Pathstone. John spent a decade with GenSpring Family Offices in multiple leadership roles, including member of the board, Head of Investments, Head of Marketing/Business Development and founder of the DC office. There, he played a significant role in developing an industry changing family office brand and growing assets under advisement from less than $1B to over $20 billion.
Additionally, John was a Managing Director/Market Manager at JP Morgan’s Private Bank and a Partner at Arthur Andersen. In every role, John has prioritized clients’ interests first, focused on delivering integrated, aligned advice, recognized the criticality of superior talent and has been dedicated to advancing the fiduciary standard.
John is a recognized speaker on the topic of family wealth and has been cited in multiple industry publications. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of the CFA Institute. John is also a member of the Washington Society of Investment Analysts and a former board member of the Make a Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic.
John graduated summa cum laude from George Mason University School of Business with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Investments.
John is an avid outdoorsman, amateur farmer, an accomplished saltwater fisherman and a licensed charter captain.
A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) is a professional designation given by the CFA Institute that measures and certifies the competence and integrity of financial analysts. Candidates are required to pass three levels of exams covering areas such as accounting, economics, ethics, money management, and security analysis.
