Owen Brainard is a shareholder of the firm and an Executive Managing Director in Pathstone’s Austin office. Owen advises entrepreneurs and family office clients, with significant experience specific to founders and early employees, such as founder’s equity and options, taxation, estate planning, and philanthropic giving. He also advises clients on portfolio construction, private and public market investment, and concentrated position management.
Prior to Pathstone, Owen was the Founder and Managing Director of Brainard Capital, where he advised entrepreneurs, venture capital professionals and family office clients. Before founding Brainard Capital in 2004, Owen worked for several global investment banks, including Credit Suisse and UBS, managing investments for domestic and offshore clients in the areas of private equity, hedge funds, and global asset class allocation strategies. Owen began his career as a venture capital finance attorney, working with two of the largest and most active venture funds in the U.S.
Owen holds a JD from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC, where he was a member of the Georgetown Law Journal, and a BA in Conservation Biology/Environmental Studies from Middlebury College in Vermont.
Owen grew up in Brunswick, Maine and Little Rock, Arkansas, and has lived in Austin almost exclusively since 1999.
